Harworth Colliery 1 – 2 Newark Town
The Blues extended their undefeated run to twelve matches, the scoreline perhaps not doing justice to the performance as they imposed themselves on the opposition until the last quarter of the match.
Rhys Lewis returned after missing the Staveley game with Mark Faflik also returning to the starting eleven.
Newark were first to threaten, Jonny Wiles sending in a speculative long range effort which was held by Andrew Topham in the Harworth goal before a long ball from Lewis was laid off by Faflik for Elliott Burrell to force a corner as the keeper blocked his shot. Town were quick to the ball and tenacious in their challenges with Lewis particularly dominant. Despite dominating play an error by Sid Costa in the penalty area almost let in Charlie Baird, Nathan Burrows being forced to save with his feet. As the half progressed chances were created, Town forced a string of corners which failed to produce a breakthrough. Burrell came close on 36 minutes, his shot on the turn bringing an acrobatic one handed save from Topham. Three minutes later Town took the lead, Lewis Chambers playing the ball across the area which was touched back by Faflik for Burrell to fire into the net. A minute later the same player went close again as Wiles beat a defender to the ball before whipping in a cross from which Burrrell brought another good save from the keeper. Newark doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, Burrell again the instigator, as he flighted a free kick into the Harworth penalty area which was glanced over the keeper.
As the second half got underway, Faflik threatened as he ghosted his way three defenders before laying the ball off to Burrell whose curling shot just beat the angle of post and bar. Burrows was brought into action, diverting a well struck shot from Leigh Warriner past the post. Burrell and Faflik were then replaced by Jake Hardy and Ben Wallace, Hardy almost scoring with his first touch, Topham scrambling the ball clear. Harworth were now showing more threat forcing several corners and it was from one of these that they got back into the game as a left wing corner was hooked past Burrows by Sam Flower. Harworth continued to press, Jack Billau firing narrowly past the post from another corner, but time ran out for them, the Blues picking up three more valuable points.
