Still riding high on the triumph of our senior team being promoted to step 6, and excited for what the future holds, we bring you the successes of our girls and ladies’ teams. From forming the Girls Development Centre with a handful of girls in 2018 we now have 8 girls’ teams, our ladies walking football group and senior ladies team.
As the season comes to an end, the girls have been out in force competing in final matches and cup competitions. Here’s the latest round up
Our ladies narrowly missed out on the Notts Girls and Ladies League plate final after a nail-biting penalty shootout. The ladies have enjoyed a great season and with a new coach joining the team very soon their ambitions are high and they are going for promotion next season.
Our under 15s have finished as joint winners of division 2. Manager Dave Pounder said ‘Absolutely brilliant for all those involved, the girls, the coaches, the parents, the supporters, and all those behind the scenes at NTFC who work unnoticed and tirelessly for our girls and our team. Who would have thought that within 2 years of forming, with some girls having never played football before, we would be in such an amazing position. Some may say we may have over-achieved this season, but honestly, and I’m sure those who have watched us regularly over the season, will agree that we are here on merit and its recognition to all the hard work put in by so many people. This is so deserved, and we need to remember that and take the time to enjoy it.’
Our under 14s have finished 3rd in division 2 and are going from strength to strength. Manager Sarah Birkett added ‘Everyone should be proud of themselves with their performance this season and how far they've come as a team. To finish third in their first season together is a brilliant achievement and I've loved watching them progress’.
Our Division 1 under 13s are league cup champions today, winning the cup final in style. ‘What an insane display of team football the u13 girls put on today in our cup final. So very, very proud of them with a dominant 3-0 win’. said manager Mark Nesbitt – he’s no average Joe when it comes to our club. Mark is girls section lead, manager of the u13s, the under 8’s and 10’s and runs training sessions for the girls development centre and 16 to 18 year olds. No wonder he was previously voted coach of the year!
Our under 12s fought hard in their cup final today, but it just wasn’t meant to be. They may have finished as runners up today, but they have topped division 2 with 5 straight wins and will be moving into division 1 next season. Managers Dom and Dan are also entering an under 12’s team into the YEL mixed league next season as well as the girls playing on a Sunday in the Notts League.
Our under 11s were victorious in their plate competition with a convincing 4-0 win. A fantastic achievement in their first season together, bringing the shield home for a second consecutive year. we are very proud of them all.
Our under 9s have enjoyed their first season together with 16 matches played and 92 goals scored! The team are looking out for additional players to join them next season.
The under 8s and 10s were formed a few months ago and have enjoyed some great friendly matches this season. They will continue to develop next season, and we are looking forward to charting their success.
Our girl’s development centre, which runs every Sunday at Devon Park is attracting record numbers with 21 attending today! New players are always welcome, and we are recruiting a coach to take over from Matt. Please get in touch if you are interested in taking the group.
So, it's a massive thank you to the managers, coaches and volunteers who dedicated so much time to supporting our players. Parents and friends of Newark Town for your continued support and to the players, we do this for you, and love every minute of it. Well done on a fantastic season - here's to 2022/23!
Finally to our sponsors. Your support means the world to us and we are grateful for everything this enables us to achieve.
