Billy Elliot Star Hits Six whilst Town Score Ten

Time after time Louis Cree with the ball at his feet just danced passed defenders as if they did not exist to score a double hat-trick for the Town as they beat mid-table Rutland 0-10 on Sunday.

Like Lazarus from his deathbed Colin Rusby the manager arrived, not from Bethany but from Balderton, more than an hour before kick-off in preparation for this game despite carrying a virus that would easily have killed an elephant . Stuttering with his chest influenza like a 1960s ford transits firing on only two cylinders he lectured the team in no uncertain terms that last week’s performance was unacceptable that this week from the kick-off each and every players was to give one hundred percent and to play for each other as a unit and a team. That no one was permitted to be critical of another fellow team player and that only positives were ordered to be heard.

In brief then a miracle was worked on Sunday some say it was one of the best Town performances of the season the truth of the matter is that attitude and determination gave town possession of the ball from the kick-off allowing for the passing of the ball and some good running creating space.

Whilst this was probably one of the worst pitches that Newark had played all season and the wind was at time blowing a gale the football was good to watch.

Too many goals to mention individually but just two worthy of note.

In the first-half a ball was fed through to Louis Cree who crossed the hallway line on the left-hand touchline a defender was in determined pursuit but with fine control and dribbling running Louis outran his opposition stopping only for a brief second on reaching the corner flag before turning and heading directly towards the near post Louis glided passed that exhausted defender like a Billy Elliott ballet dancer on fire and on reaching a approaching keeper he simply chipped the ball over and into the onion bag.

So for the second goal - it’s not often that Billly Hurst hits the headlines for anything else other than his George Best good looks and the huge following of girls that attend each of our games - but on Sunday it was Town’s left back who powered in his first goal of the season and Town’s number eight. Well done Billy.

Well done Newark Town attitude and preparation made the difference. Next Sunday is the quarter final of the Willie Hall Cup a cup town won last season and a trophy no doubt that there will be a desire on behalf of Town to hold onto.

Up the Blues!
