Flowserve FC v Newark

Newark Town after the reaching the very highs last weekend and the finals of the Notts Senior Cup, succumbed once again to their very own bogey side Flowserve FC and a narrow defeat 1-0, the first loss in 20 games including some tough preseason friendlies. Taking nothing away from a solid performance from Flowserve, Newark certainly did not play to their full potential no doubt stifled and successfully suffocated in midfield by the tactics adopted by Flowserve.

In the end the difference between the two sides was the ever persistent Tyler Martin similar in stature and in playing style to Alan Clarke of the old Leeds United team, Clarke in his days was always lurking in dangerous areas prepared to take on a defence and shoot and that’s what Tyler Martin did exactly on Sunday with just two minutes of extra-time remaining he collected the ball outside the penalty area and to the right of the goal he dribbled at two defenders before releasing a fine shot that found the bottom left hand side of the goal.

There were some good individual performances Stephen Kirkman received man-of-the-match for Flowserve and for Newark that accolade was given to Adam Britten for his fine tacking and attacking play, from his full-back position.

This weekend Newark take on Grove FC another side that might prove difficult to beat and in the quarter finals of the Willie Hall Cup.
Pretty sure Town players will be well motivated after their lackluster performance against Flowserve so as to lift their game to hopefully progress into the semifinals of the Willie Hall Cup a trophy they have won for the last two seasons.
