A Kieran Wall hat-trick, a Tyler Martin double and one from Jammy Lloyd see Blues through in the Floodlit Cup

The Blues advanced into the last four of the northern half of the Floodlit Cup with a convincing victory over a Dinnington side, who to their credit never gave up, but were never able to match the visitors. New signing Stuart Rose made his debut in the middle of the defence, with Callum Thorpe also included on the subs bench for his first outing.
To be honest the match was never in doubt after the 5th minute by which time Newark were already two goals up. Less than two minutes had been played when Kieran Wall latched on to superb through ball from Richard Dent. His initial shot was blocked by keeper Taylor, but the striker reacted sharply to put in the rebound. Three minutes later Tyler Martin rose unchallenged to head home a Jammy Lloyd corner. Taylor then pulled off a good save from the influential Damian Lloyd but was beaten again on 19 minutes when Wall showed a real turn of pace down the left to get past the covering defender again scoring at the second attempt from an acute angle. Martin brought another good save from the home keeper before a rare threatening attack from Dinnington saw Nathan Burrows dive bravely at the feet of Young.
Joe Parker replaced Reece Carlisle at half time and it took just two minutes for Town to get their fourth. Again Wall was the instigator, his shot again blocked, but the ball was only cleared as far as Martin whose shot from 15 yards was deflected off a defender into the net. A strong run then took Damian Lloyd past four defenders, his shot clipping the crossbar. Captain Jammy Lloyd scored Newark’s fifth on 58 minutes, hammering a fierce shot past Taylor after a surging run from midfield. Burrows was again called into action with another courageous save to deny Hall. The final goal of the night came on 66 minutes completing a well-deserved hat trick for Wall as a long kick from Burrows was played on by Parker for Wall to lash home from the tightest of angles. George Pearce almost made it seven after being set up by Sam Wilford, but shot inches over the bar, the same fate befalling Thorpe in the dying minutes.
Town find themselves without a game again this Saturday due to Dronfield having to play a County Cup match, returning to action the following Saturday when they travel to bottom of the table Welbeck Lions.
