Blues returned to the

Dearne & District 1 – 3 Newark Town
On an afternoon where two of their rivals stumbled, the Blues returned to the top of the table, with a win that perhaps flattered them a little against opponents who can consider themselves unlucky.
Rhys Lewis returned to the starting lineup in place of Jonny Wiles with Raheem Sunmonu swapping places on the bench with Kosi Nwobe.
Nwobe, however, was soon in action as Max Jemson suffered a hamstring injury after just 7 minutes. Dearne were first to threaten, Lewis having to make a hasty clearance from a Jamie Ghaichem corner. The pressure on Town’s defence was maintained and it was against the run of play that the visitors took the lead on 24 minutes, Mason Rhiney finding Chanju Mphande whose shot from a tight angle was deflected over keeper Sam Ogden. Dearne continued to test Town’s rearguard, Alex Lill’s shot just clearing the bar. The home side levelled the score on the half hour as Fraser Hartley’s shot was beaten away by Harry Haywood, the loose ball running to Lill who tucked the ball home. Dearne almost took the lead shortly afterwards, Cameron Hunt heading against the post. As play switched to the other end a long punt forward from Lewis saw Ogden just beat Lewis Chambers to the ball.
The second half was uneventful until the hour when Chambers was put through by Jackson Buckthorp, the shot passing just wide of the post. Ainsley Finney was next to threaten, but was thwarted by a well-timed block from Lee Turner. Ogden then went down at the feet of Rhiney as the balance of play shifted. Town finally took the lead on 78 minutes as Nathan Arnold , who had replaced Finney, sent a precise ball to find Chambers who showed his customary poise to take the ball wide of Ogden before finding the empty net. Chambers then turned supplier as some neat work on the left saw him play the ball to Nwobe who headed over the bar. The match ended in chaos, as a free kick in added time from Ben Sharpe saw Nwobe’s shot appear to hit the wheel on the goalpost frame and rebound onto the pitch where a Dearne player picked up the ball for a goal kick. The linesman however assumed that the ball had come back off the post and flagged for a penalty, which was given after some consultation between the officials. The resulting arguments ended with a Dearne player sent off before Chambers stepped up to hit the ball past Ogden to seal the win.
