not a sign of a bad foul or dissent

Staveley Reserves 2 – 4 Newark Town
For the second time this season, these two teams provided ninety minutes of enjoyable football with plenty of goals and not a sign of a bad foul or dissent to mar the afternoon.
Town welcomed back James Gardner and Zak Kersey to the starting eleven and gave a full debut to Elliott Burrell.
It was Burrell who came closest in the early minutes, guiding a cross from Jackson Buckthorpe over the bar. Both teams were using the full width of the pitch., Kersey in particular looking lively on the left wing. Staveley had a chance to open the scoring on 15 minutes when a loose ball in the Town area let in Reece Clegg who completely missed his kick. Nathan Burrows then pulled off an acrobatic one handed save to deny Liam Vardy, but it was the Blues who went ahead in the 23rd minute, a long ball from Sid Costa finding Burrell whose shot beat Monty Parkes in the Staveley goal. The lead, however, lasted for just three minutes, Gardner bringing down a Staveley forward in the area, Danny Fullwood taking full advantage from the penalty spot. After Ben Wallace had a fierce drive which narrowly cleared the bar, Town retook the lead in the 37th minute when after interplay between Burrell and Buckthorpe the ball was fed to Lewis Chambers who shook of the attentions of two defenders to shoot past Parkes. Chambers almost got another a moment later, when an exchange of passes with Jonny Wiles ended with the shot finding the side netting.
Ben Sharpe replaced Sam Bartle at half time for Newark, who had the first opportunity of the half, the lively Burrell forcing Parkes to save an angled shot with his feet. With an hour played Staveley had the ball in the Town net but Allerton’s header was ruled out by an offside flag. Burrell, who had impressed on his debut, was replaced by Mark Faflik, and it was he who gave Town a bit of breathing space on 75 minutes when he took advantage of a deadly accurate through ball from Wiles to sweep the ball into the net. Any hope of seeing the game out quietly were put on one side five minutes from time when Vardy’s cross was met by a diving header from Clegg, but the two goal margin was restored a couple of minutes later as a long ball down the line from Kersey was crossed by Jeremiah Ogie for Chambers to score his fifteenth goal of the season.
