After enduring high winds, torrential rain, thunder and lightning, Town returned pointless from title chasing Thorne.

Without captain Luke Parsons, both Arron Martin and Alex Hales returned to the starting line up, while Darren Townsley and Rhys Stanley featured on the bench.
With just 30 seconds on the clock, Sam Wilford had to make a timely interception to snuff out a clear chance for Darren Fell, and the same player went close minutes later, dragging his shot wide of a post after Chris Riley punched out a free kick. Good work from Reece Self on the right then saw Callum Fraser turn his marker to hit a diagonal shot narrowly off target. Thorne took a 15th minute lead as Neil Sheppard launched a ball across the Town area, Scott Rhodes nodding it back to leave the unmarked Fell with a simple header at the far post. The Blues fought back and were level within two minutes as Danny Lee crossed from the left. Keeper Rob Chester fumbled and the ball was cleared as far as Reece Self, who scored what is becoming his trademark goal as, judging his 20 yard shot to perfection, it cleared Chester and dropped under the bar. The heavens now opened, with wind whipping the rain into the players’ faces, and with lightning overhead, it might have been safer to have held play up for a while. However the teams played on, and Riley did well to make a diving save from Fell on a surface which was now decidedly greasy. Newark had hopeful shouts for a penalty turned down after a George Pearce shot struck Luke Rafferty. From the resulting corner Chester again dropped the ball, but the Thorne defence reacted quicker to clear the danger. The deteriorating conditions played a part as Thorne retook the lead on 43 minutes. A long ball from the back was chased down by Fell and Arron Martin, but the Town player slipped in the mud, leaving Fell in the clear to score his second.
With Fraser and Munson the lucky winners of a dry shirt in the half-time raffle, Rhys Stanley replaced the injured Pearce after the break, but play was halted after three minutes following an injury to a linesman who slipped and fell heavily on his shoulder. When play resumed, Riley was again down well to stop a shot which took a deflection off Sean Fulcher. Thorne were quick to get men behind the ball when Newark attacked, a feature of play which wasn’t always apparent at the other end. Fraser’s flick on from another Lee cross was hoofed clear by Rafferty under pressure from James Munson, but on 68 minutes Thorne scored what proved to be the decisive goal. After the ball was lost in the Thorne half, a quick counter attack allowed Fell to knock the ball in from the left, the ball evading the defence giving Sheppard the opportunity to roll the ball in at the near post. Callum Tiffany should have made it four, running the ball out of play as he bore down on goal, and Riley saved the Blues from further punishment, twice thwarting Sheppard in dangerous positions. Newark came within inches of pulling one back a couple of minutes from time, Stanley collecting the ball from Townsley and feeding Fraser, whose final shot almost found the target.
