Another overwhelming performance from the Blues saw them soundly beat a Dronfield side which has conceded eighteen goals in their two meetings with Newark this season.
The side showed just two changes from that which played Kimberley last time out with Ed Munton and Craig Bridge replacing Matt Gamble and Daryl Price.
Town almost took the lead in the second minute, keeper Knighton failing to hold the ball before grabbing it inches away from crossing the line. Town dominated the early stages and it was no surprise when they went ahead on 19 minutes, Ricky North supplying George Asplin whose cross was lashed home by Rhys Lewis. Newark kept up the pressure, Jonny Wiles and Tyler Martin going close, before Asplin was again the supplier of goal number two in the 31st minute. Another cross from the right saw Knighton and Hunter get in each other’s way, the ball ending in the net with Lewis Chambers credited with the final touch. Dronfield were having problems with judging the strength of the wind, many of the balls played out of defence falling way ahead of their forwards. In the 36th minute, persistence from Chambers saw him get the better of two defenders on the edge of the area before slotting the ball past the keeper. Five minutes before the interval, Dronfield pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after North handled, Mason easily beating Nathan Burrows.
With the wind now behind them in the second half, the Blues attacked from the off, Wiles heading just too high before the fourth goal arrived on 53 minutes, Chambers claiming his hat trick with a beautifully judged lob following a poorly directed clearance from Hunter. Luke Parsons was replaced by Luke Boddy after receiving a painful knock. Craig Bridge had a powerful drive saved by Knighton at full stretch, the loose ball just evading the incoming Chambers. North then saw his header from an Asplin corner bounce on the top of the bar before, on 74 minutes, a quick Asplin produced an outstanding individual goal on 74 minutes. Picking the ball up on the edge of his own penalty area, he accelerated, running the whole length of the pitch before producing a delightful chip over the keeper. Five minutes later Bridge produced a goal of quality, hitting home a perfectly judged shot as he turned from 25 yards out. Although the game was, by now, way out of the reach of their opponents, Town didn’t let up, Chambers bringing his personal tally to four on 85 minutes as he finished off a move involving Wiles and sub Ben Castell, making a welcome return after a lengthy absence through injury. In the next attack came the goal of the game, Asplin producing an outstanding individual goal. Picking the ball up on the edge of his own penalty area, he accelerated, running the whole length of the pitch before producing a delightful chip over the keeper to round off the afternoon.
