For the second Saturday in a row Town played the league leaders and came away victors after a hard fought game. Last week it was away at Appleby Frodingham and this week it was home to the new leaders FC Bolsover.
The game was only 5 minutes old when Town were awarded a corner which was only partially cleared and as the ball came back into the area the referee saw a handball by a Bolsover defender and awarded a penalty, despite heated protests from the Bolsover players and management. Danny Purves kept his cool and placed the ball into the bottom corner. The game then settled into an even midfield contest, with both sides having spells of possession but not creating any real chances. Bolsover were awarded a free kick in the 20th minute and Josh Scully hit it low past the wall but Nathan Burrows managed to push it around the post.
Bolsover increasingly began to gain the upper hand and were playing good balls into the feet of their players and on the half hour mark created another chance which was headed narrowly wide. Town’s defenders coped well with most of their attacks with Luke Parsons dominant when any high balls were played in.
The second half was much of the same, with most of the game seeing Bolsover attacking and Town defending resolutely. Scully was becoming increasing influential in the middle of the park finding space to play incisive balls forward. Town’s management made changes to strengthen the middle of the park, taking off Tyler Martin and bringing on Jammy Lloyd, and later in the half introducing Alex Hales and Reece Self as players were tiring. With ten minutes left Luke Parsons slipped while taking a free kick and injured his groin, but as all the subs had been used, he went back out and helped out as best he could to defend. Towns back line were being pushed further
and further back but they managed to see the game out and claim the points.
Another tough game awaits next week against Clay Cross but the team can draw confidence from their last two league results and performances. REPORT BY TONY KELLY
