Town started their season on a hot afternoon at Dinnington with just two of the players who contested this fixture last season.

They started at a good tempo and quickly created chances with their quick closing down and pressure. Reece Self robbed a defender in the first minute and set up an early chance for Ricky Brewer but the shot was off target. Debutant Kieran Wall was soon into his stride, having an early shot saved and then winning a free kick just outside the area from which Self shot just wide. Newark continued to dominate the early stages and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 15 minutes. Luke Parsons won a header just inside his own half and found Dom Swingler, his flick was collected by Jammy Lloyd who played the ball into the path of Kieron Wall and he beat the advancing Taylor in the Dinnington goal low to his left. A minute later Swingler was unlucky not to double the lead when his shot was cleared off the line by Bradshaw. It wasn’t long before Town did go further ahead as a quick throw found Wall on the left and his cross was met by Lloyd who shot low to the keeper’s right. Dinnington’s first real chance came on 33 minutes but was easily saved by Nathan Burrows.
Town were quickly into their stride in the second half. A fine through ball put Swingler clear and although his first shot was blocked by a defender, but as they both slid in for the loose ball Swingler got to the ball first and rolled it home. On 55 minutes Town went four up as Wall got clear of the Dinnington defence, his shot from the right edge of the area beating the keeper low to his right. Ten minutes later Swingler scored his second and Towns fifth when, after a good spell of pressure, he was on hand at the far post to follow up Arron Martin’s goalbound header which had been well saved by the keeper. The only blot on the game for Town came on 72 minutes when Richard Dent conceded a penalty after fouling Bradley,. Bradley got up and took the penalty himself but despite Burrows getting a good hand to the ball he was unable to keep it out. Dinnington had a bit more possession after this as Town eased up but failed to trouble the keeper. The Blues had another couple of late chances as a cross from the right by sub Jamie Brooks was deflected onto the bar by defender Kirk Bradshaw and in the final minute sub Tyler Martin was played clear but saw his shot was knocked clear by the keepers feet.
