Made to work hard away from home

Well Played Holwell
The previous league encounter played in Newark, and only ‘The Blues’, second official game, after promotion to Step 6, resulted, last August, in a 7 – 1 victory, for the Town team.
On Saturday the grass pitch was soggy, and uneven, no doubt consequence of a game played Tuesday evening against promotion chasers and visitors Radford, who beat Holwell by two goals to one. A game, Luke Parsons, the Newark manager, had taken the time to travel to watch.
Holwell throughout the ninety minutes made it difficult for Newark, to get into their usual flowing passing movements and the playing surface, did not help. Whilst playing a high defence, Holwell attempted to pass from the back forward and often made several passes within their own half before venturing over the halfway line. Overall Newark were the better side and the result was a fair one but much credit must be given to the opposition who frustrated both the players in blue and their travelling fans, as the free-flowing football never had a chance to materialise, because of the home sides efforts. A call often came from the Holwell bench that the team should hold-onto-the-ball and have confidence and be brave. They certainly listened to their management instructions.
After five minutes, a control on the chest, made in the centre of the park, by Jammy Lloyd and his twist and turn to beat a defender allowed for a diagonal ball to be threaded through to the advancing Tristan Drummond, who charged down the right into the penalty box and fired in a shot that left the keeper rooted, as the ball swung into the far top corner, beyond him.
HT 0-1
On the sixty-ninth minute, a mysterious penalty was awarded to Holwell, for no obvious reason, as they made an advance into the Town penalty area. The penalty was well taken by Daniel Barber 1-1.
On the eighty-fourth minute a simple back-header nodded to the Holwell keeper forced him to push the ball away and that allowed Rory Harrison to race in, and slot the ball home, from an acute angle, 1-2.
FT 1-2
Newark had several chances in the game hitting the post and seeing a couple of good saves made by the Holwell keeper Harry Allcock.
After this game Holwell tweeted ‘’ 0 points from the last 2 games is hard to take. Played some of the best football of our season but came away with nothing. Football is cruel sometimes’’.
The Newark Town social media account posted, ‘’ Fantastic place to visit. Great hosts, lovely volunteers. Your lads were a credit to you. they made us dig deep. Thank you for your hospitality. All the best for the rest of the season.’’
Man of the match was awarded to Jammy Lloyd, who never stopped running, controlling, and passing from the centre of midfield.
On Tuesday evening Town travel to Saffron Dynamo in Cosby, Leicestershire. It is hoped that another three points might be collected to maintain that place in the play-offs, the top five clubs.
