Newark’s serene progress in the league continued with a straightforward win against a spirited and tenacious Brodsworth Welfare side.

The win takes moves Newark up to third place with 18 points from a possible 21 as they kept up the pace with the leading pack.
Calum Fraser should have opened the scoring in the second minute when an excellent raking cross from Ian Hiller was nodded a yard wide with the forward well placed.
Brodsworth battled hard, but Newark produced too much quality football to be contained, and Hiller came close to opening Town’s account when his effort beat the keeper but was blocked on the line by the defence. Luke Hutchinson suffered the same fate a few moments later with a defender again clearing off the line.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 22nd minute, when Sam Wilford played a delightful through ball to Daryl Price who showed great touch before stroking the ball into the net.
Arron Martin headed an effort inches wide, before Fraser added a second in the 27th minute as he coolly slotted past the keeper following an inch-perfect cross from Hillier.
Fraser scored his second and Newark’s third ten minutes later, after a scramble in the box eventually fell kindly, allowing the striker to force a back heel over the line.
Craig Rhodes was called into action for his first meaningful save on the stroke of half time as Joe Fisher found himself through on goal, but his low effort was easily saved to ensure a comfortable half time advantage.
Jordan Thomas came off the bench for his first appearance since his recent signing and he proved a constant threat with some good skill and movement leaving Brodsworth chasing shadows for much of the half.
The second period was exceedingly comfortable for the Blues, with Brodsworth unable to stretch the Newark back line, Thomas opening his account for the club after some intricate passing, his well-placed effort on 64 minutes finding the corner of the net.
Newark couldn’t convert their dominance into more goals, always a precious commodity in a league where high scores are becoming commonplace.
Wilford had an effort comfortably saved, before Fraser latched onto a Max King cross with just a couple of minutes remaining, forcing the keeper into a good save from an acrobatic effort.
Manager Tony Joynes was delighted with the excellent football and confidence which is flowing through the side.
“The second half especially was some of the best football I have seen down here in a long time. We completely dominated things and I couldn’t ask for any more really.
“If I have one criticism it’s that we didn’t get a few more goals when were on top, but you can hardly complain with a 4-0 win,” he said.
