Newark lost both fixtures against their North Nottinghamshire opponents last season, but the victory on Tuesday night helps consolidate a strong start to the season.
With Tony Joynes away, Adrian Speed took control of the side, and the Blues started the match quickly, and took an 8th minute lead when Martin latched onto the loose ball after Dom Swingler had his close range effort well saved.
They continued their good start, continually opening up Harworth’s defence with crisp, incisive passing.
Martin scored his second in the 24th minute, as he cut in from the left hand side, creating space before shooting towards the bottom right hand corner courtesy of a little deflection. He now has five goals in four games at the start of this season.
He nearly completed a stunning hat trick before half time, but his shot from long range curled onto the top of the bar and out for a goal kick.
Despite being comfortable in the first half, it was a different story after the break as Harworth found a way back into the match almost immediately.
A quick break up field by Scott Hardman helped create space in the middle and Danny Rhodes slid a first time shot past Craig Rhodes to halve the deficit.
The home side continued to press, but they couldn’t find an equaliser and Newark eventually steadied the ship and began to take control.
Arron Martin had another effort tipped over, while Calum Fraser had a header saved low by Steven Wibberley.
Newark scored a deserved third in the 70th minute, after some good work down the left by Fraser once again created space. He crossed to Swingler, who made no mistake with the close range effort.
This seemed to kill off any hopes Harworth had of forcing a result, and Newark’s substitutes Stefan Bilyk and Max King began to cause more problems with their pace.
Fraser almost added a goal of his own but the striker was unfortunate to see his thunderous effort smash off the bar and fly out of play.
Bilyk had threatened since his arrival and rounded off the scoring with a magnificent goal. He beat three players before unleashing a beautiful strike into the top corner. It was a moment to savour for the 17-year-old, as he scored his first competitive goal for the club.
