A blazing hot afternoon saw Town make the short trip to Kirton for their third warm-up match. With 20 players available this was another good opportunity for the management to run the rule over the squad. The first 45 minutes was close with Kirton, despite their lower league status, providing a good test for the Blues. The match remained goalless until three minutes after the interval, where several changes were made to the line up. With 48 minutes played Rhys Stanley put in a well-flighted cross from the left, allowing Arron Martin to outjump his marker to head home across the keeper. Kirton equalised five minutes later, but the Blues regained the lead on 67 minutes as triallist Callum Thorpe finished from close range. Stanley thumped the ball against the post in the next attack, before Newark increased the lead with 72 minutes played, Freddie Daws piercing the home defence for Tyler martin to finish confidently. With Kirton visibly wilting in the heat, James Munson rounded the scoring off producing a delightfully judged chip which floated over the keeper into the net.
