The pace of Lincoln’s youngsters ensured a quick start to the game, and both sides enjoyed early chances before the visitors opened the scoring in the eighth minute, with Jordan Harper latching onto a through ball and scoring with ease. The Blues equalised within a minute with a brilliant goal, as Arron Martin played an accurate long ball to Daryl Price, who beat the keeper with a delicate chip that nestled into the corner. After the lightning start, the game eventually settled into a comfortable pace, although Newark’s defence were susceptible at times to the quick movement of the Lincoln forwards.
Ricky Brewer thought he had headed in Newark’s second goal in the 22nd minute, but an alleged push in the area saw his effort ruled out. Lincoln retook the lead just before the break, as they beat Newark’s offside trap before Harper bundled in his second of the game.
Rhys Stanley levelled the scores on the hour mark, finding the top corner with an excellent strike from 25 yards. Max King went close with a number of efforts before Lincoln won the game six minutes from time as Kieran Helsdown slotted his shot past Craig Rhodes after jinking through the defence.
