Saturday's heroics against Grantham took their toll on the Blues, as a desperately tired performance saw them overrun by a Gedling side who controlled the game for most of the 90 minutes. It took only two minutes for Ricky Law to stroke the ball past Craig Rhodes, and the opening quarter of an hour left little doubt as to the final outcome, as Town were repeatedly cut open. An unmarked Tony Law added the second on 16 minutes. Frequent rolling substitutions did little to help the game as a spectacle, and it was a minor miracle that the margin was still two goals at the interval. After Sam Wilford had run on to a long ball but seen his lob go over the keeper but wide, Gedling began to exploit their pace, Jordan Whitehouse running through to supply Reece Campbell with an easy third. Sam Bagworth and Chris Self both had shots which were well off target before a Gedling forward fell over Sam Wilford, who was lying in the penalty area at the time. The highly dubious penalty was put away by Tony Law. A misplaced ball out of defence on 75 minutes gave Law his hat trick. A second, this time definite, penalty after Rhodes brought down a home forward was well saved by the Town keeper, and on 80 minutes Gedling made it six through Luke Stanley, a goal for which Rick Brewer will be credited with the assist !! The Blues' only consolation came after 82 minutes through a close range header from Rhys Stanley.
Three matches in five days not surprisingly proved an excessive demand, especially following the high octane performance in the Grantham game.
