The difference in the teams was not immediately obvious, as both sides battled to get to grips with the heat.
Grantham enjoyed more time and space in possession, and they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as Rhys Lewis calmly slotted a shot past Craig Rhodes after being played through on goal.
Rhodes produced another great save before half time, but Newark more than match their opponents, and went close with efforts from Dom Swingler and Calum Fraser.
A minute after the break, 17-year-old Stefan Bilyk made an immediate impact on his first Newark Town appearance with a stunning goal.
Calum Fraser produced a cross from the right, and with his first touch Bilyk found the back of the net with an acrobatic bicycle kick.
He showed more promising touches in attack, as Newark looked to put their noses in front, but eventually differing fitness levels began to show and Town’s threat began to lessen.
The Blues were defending manfully, with Luke Parsons in particular running himself into the ground as they attempted to keep their opponents out.
Grantham rattled the bar, before Paul Grimes found some space in the area to shoot past Rhodes.
Bilyk was unable to get a touch on Dom Swingler’s dangerous cross a few minutes before the end, as Grantham edged out Newark in the high quality friendly.
This was another excellent showing against high ranking opposition, with the 16 players on view giving their all.
