Two goals each from Callum Fraser, Daryl Price and Dom Swingler gave the Blues a comfortable win over their young opponents.

Newark Town continued their encouraging pre-season form with a 6-1 rout of Boston United’s academy side. There were braces for Calum Fraser, Daryl Price and Dom Swingler as the Blues notched up their second win with ease.
Fraser nearly opened the scoring in the first minute after he latched onto a Price through ball before striking his first time effort just wide. This wouldn’t be the last time the pair combined well at the front.
Alex Hales’ header was beaten away by the keeper and Fraser nodded wide before they deservedly took the lead. Jamie Brooks played a ball over the defence and Fraser outpaced a defender before striking his shot into the corner of the net.
Newark kept producing chances, with Tom Mallinson, Fraser and Hales all going close, and they eventually added a second in the 39th minute as Price latched onto a Hales header, producing a good touch before burying his effort confidently.
With Jordan Cummings controlling things in midfield, Boston briefly let their heads drop, and Newark took full advantage with two goals in the space of a minute before half time. Price once again picked out Fraser who struck a clean first time ball into the bottom corner. Price then added his second from a free kick which curled sweetly over the wall.
Substitute Dom Swingler staked his claim for a starting role as he hit a long range effort expertly into the corner in the 53rd minute. He went close to adding a second a few minutes later but fluffed his lines from close range.
Despite being outclassed, Boston kept working hard and were rewarded with a goal of their own on 63 minutes as Pulford curled his shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
Price was impressive throughout the match, and was denied a deserved hat trick as his stinging effort pinged off the bar. Swingler added his second and Newark’s sixth in the 75th minute, as he took the ball over the keeper, controlled well before rolling the ball easily into the unguarded net.
Jamie Brooks should have added a seventh with ten minutes remaining, but he blasted over from ten yards after Reece Self’s initial effort had been saved by the keeper. Newark will undoubtedly face tougher opposition in the matches to come, but they produced some stylish football which should stand them in good stead for the new season.
