Newark's Difficult Opener

It was always going to be difficult going up a division but this was a reality check for sure. The season has come around quickly again and everyone was buzzing with the anticipation of a New Season. I had retained my Championship winning side and all were eager to kick off the season as we had left the previous one.

We welcomed Robin Hood Colts to Devon Park for the first match of the season. A new side to NNYFL and an unknown quantity.

It was obvious from the start that the visitors were a good well organised side. They Passed the ball with confidence and maturity from the kick off. Newark battled well and then gave away a silly goal half way through the half. Within minutes though their character showed through and Adam Hall drilled in a great effort from just inside the penalty area to bring the scores level. Newark were on the defence most of the half and conceded two more before the break.

The second half was very much a repeat of the first with Newark having to defend for large periods of the half. Max Bower in goal was getting a good work out and coming through it with a stylish performance.

It was inevitable as heads dropped and the lack of match practice got to the lads that Robin Hood were able to capitalise on their superiority. The final tally of 9 was a little disappointing given Newark's commitment and endeavours but we can only look a taking the positives from the game of which their were many. A difficult day but we march on and thankful the season has started again.
