First match ever....
By Gary Cooper
Brave, impressive... proud.
This game is about as difficult as it gets for a first ever match at the age of 6, and the boys came out the other side with masses to be proud of. Some of the things they were up against.
► RHP team have players who are at Derby County and Mansfield town.
► This was their 9th game as a team.
► Most of them have been training since the age of 4
► Most of them play for other teams as well on Sunday so are into double figures in games.
► They had 9 players to play and share the work
► We only had 5 Players, one that has only been training for 4 weeks. The last 10 minutes they ran out of steam, but they will get fitter and gain confidence.
To put some perspective on the next step on the pathway, the Newark boys had a lot to deal with, a lot to get used to. It was a massive learning curve, but they competed fantastic. How they build from this will be Mine and Neil's job. The next friendly will be hopefully be against Collingham FC who are a fantastic club with a great attitude and very good couching courtesy. This will allow the boys to truly express them selves and take what they have learnt and play a strong game.
From this first game we can take so many positives, the fact that at our very starting point and with only 5 players we stopped so many of their chances, but also managed to score and amazing 6 goals ... which truly is a fantastic achievement for their first game.
I'm really proud of them...
see you all at training...
